I wanted to DL a C++ program to add a command and it was only available as a TAR? also if its C++ what is the chance of it being for 64bit also? I guess I could set up one of my machines as a Linux – would this even help? If a UNIX machine is used to program a C++ program is this going to run on my Windows machine – I’m a little confused – thanks for any help!

Tarzan Shadow Doc Savage, Windows MacOS UNIX/GNU Linux?

I’m tired of reading questions about which hero would win in a fight. I just want to know if they were alive today which Operating System would each of these heroes use.
I am of course inspired by Philip Jose Farmer’s Feast Unknown, The Mad Goblin and Lord of the Trees, as well as his Wold Newton books. An example would be:

Tarzan seems like a Mac User to me, while Doc Savage sounds like an unreconstructed mainframer.

Where can I start learning and practicing game programming?

I’m on my second year of Computer Science. I know Java, C, UNIX system programming, SQL, XML. I’ve figured that C++ is the most used language for game programming.

So where can I start? Should I join one of those game modding teams? Should I take one of those free online courses?

Thanks in advance!

How long does it take to become a Linux or Unix Administrator?

Was wondering how long does it take to become an entry level Linux or Unix administrator? I mean what is the minimum time required to be able to seek for a job at an entry level.

Thanks for your time.

Judge Confirms That Novell Owns Unix Rights in SCO Case

U.S. District Judge Ted Stewart closes the 7-year-old case — from the federal district perspective, anyway — by reaffirming that SCO’s claims against Novell in the long-running litigation over ownership of Unix operating system copyrights were unconvincing. – Is the seven-year-old intellectual property lawsuit between Unix server maker SCO Group and Novell finally at its end? If it isn’t officially over, then it’s very, very close.

Salt Lake City U.S. District Judge Ted Stewart on June 10 closed the case — from the federal district perspective, anywa…

What is your position on Microsoft's contribution of 20klines of code to the Linux Kernel and 3 Linux drivers?

As Microsoft begins its slow migration to the integration of open-source software into it’s system, amazing things have happened. Most recently, Microsoft released 20,000 lines of code as a contribution to the linux Kernel which include 3 linux-based device drivers, all in the hopes of enabling Linux/Unix distros to be virtualized into programs such as Hyper-V for cross platform integration.

What is your opinion on this? Do you like it or not, and why?

What are the differences between UNIX and Linux, and what about all those choices within Linux?

What are the operational differences between Linux and UNIX? Why would a programmer choose one over the other? What about software selection and ease of programming (with already basic knowledge of programming, and wanting to dive in to open source)?

In terms of Linux, what makes things like Red Hat cost money and things like Ubuntu not? Is pay-for OS based on Linux better quality than freely distributed OS? What is the best choice for Linux-or-Unix OS for a budding programmer?
