I’m trying to determine the origin of the GNU utilities/commands "info" and "dir". Meaning, are they descendants of Unix commands? Did the GNU foundation create these tools? How long have they been standard tools in Linux? Are they commonly used on newer Unix systems?

I’ve been poking around http://www.gnu.org/software/texinfo/ and http://www.gnu.org/software/coreutils/ for information, but they aren’t really answering the questions.

And as for coreutils, I assume that "dir" used to be a part of "fileutils", but I cannot find any historical information on the GNU website related to this package set, other than it was incorporated into coreutils.

i m IT student i want to know some thing about programming which is related to IT how i create the program and also i want how its work how i do this easy (i don’t know any thing about programming) have any software (if it is software so give me the free tutorial) or other thing and if there is any thing for learning programming means tutorial (free) so send me links and i want learn every (so many) things about programming thanks
