Does anyone know of a freeware or open source replacement for Microsoft Exchange? It can be Linux of MS Based.

I’m looking for a system that offers group calendars that are flexible and can be shared for scheduling meetings, etc. It is for a new, extremely poor, nonprofit organization. They simply cannot afford M$ and Exchange. I’ve heard there are solutions in Linux, but the ones I’ve found are barely cheaper than Exchange. So I’m looking for something that is freeware or open source to use instead. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are Open Source programs generally written for Unix machines or what?

I wanted to DL a C++ program to add a command and it was only available as a TAR? also if its C++ what is the chance of it being for 64bit also? Can I charge someone for the service of installing open source software?

I am looking into starting up a business that does electronic repairs, mods, and installations – like a computer shop but I would like to be able to install linux on PCs, homebrew on consoles, – possibly unlock phones – and unlock GPSs (based on windows CE into pocket PCs) Technically I would not be charging for the software – I would be charging for the service of installing the software – or the media the software comes on (Cost of a CD or DVD backup) – I also would add something about voiding warranties in some cases and not endorsing piracy. Would this all be legal?

How much computer-knowledge do you need to use an open-source OS?

That is, how much programming experience would you need and how much general hardware/software knowledge would you need? I’m interested in Linux, but I’m intimidated by my lack of experience.
