I can find information about mounting Windows network shares in Linux, but not the other way around.

People are telling me about linux an OS of some kind which is supposed to be so great and free and I’m like what the hec? Can someone tell me exactly what it is and whats so great about it. Personally I wouldn’t want or use Linux because I never heard of it until now and it can’t be all that good if it’s supposed to be free. I would prefer Windows, but I’m curious about it. Can someone give me a link of a computer using linux unstead of Windows.

I installed OpenSuse Linux 11.1 on my hard drive, and the installer set aside a large chunk of the hard drive for windows. After installing linux and restarting, windows was no longer a boot option (under grub). Also, the partition for windows was no longer readable. I tried to recover the data using data recovery software without any luck. From another windows machine the recovery software says that it cannot read the data.

Please give step-by step instructions because I want to install Linux (there are some free programs that are better then the Windows alternatives) too. Thanks!

I want to download a version of Linux without erasing windows xp. Can someone please give me step-by-step information on how to do this.(If you are familiar with Linux could you please recommed the best version). Thanks.
