By "architect" I mean one who designs buildings and structures, not a "computer architect".

I’m interested in learning a programming language but it’d be better if I learn something that would be useful in my field of work. Any suggestions?

I want to learn how to repair and upgrade my computer. Will learning a programming language like C++, Java etc. be of any help?
Also, can you give me examples of what an Average Joe like my self would be able to use a programming language for. Please note: my computer skills are very basic.

I just decided I wanted to become an iphone application developer, and I knew i needed to know something about programming. So it would be really helpful is I could find a good book to teach me.

I’m interested in finally learning a programming language but I don’t know which one to start with. I’ve been reading about C++ the last few days since I know it’s a popular one, but is it the best? All of my lame newbie software is just text in a black box. Is it going to get better as I learn more, or am I going the wrong route and should switch languages?

I’m looking for some easy-to-use software to help me learn programming languages and haven’t been very successful thus far. Does anyone know of such a thing? It would be nice to find something like rosetta stone for programming languages but anything will do at this point.
