I own a Dell Inspiron E1505, every now and then it doesnt start up normally. It shows a new screen, showing:

error code 0141
msg:error code 2000-0141
msg:no drive detected

My warranty is expired. Is this something I can take care of myself. It doesnt happen all the time, but It does concern me. Help!

I have a Belkin wireless router and initially both my husband and son could access from their laptops with no problem. However, since I got my laptop and joined the network they can’t get on – I think maybe the system automatically set a password or authentication pin code – please can someone help?

Hello everyone !
I have Ubuntu Linux version 9.04 installed in one partition of my laptop. There’s a newer better version that has just been released (10.04) And I want to install it, but at the same time replace the old one completely with the new installation.
What is the best way to do this ? The way that it’s less error-prone, or the easiest way.

Note. I have Windows installed as well and I use GRUB for dual booting.

I just bought a used laptop and I am used to the XP home operating system. How do I go about connecting to my modem or a wireless network using the Ubuntu Linux operating system? Usually there is a connect to menu. I am unable to find this equivalent on Linux.

I keep trying to upload "firefox" on my laptop and quit using internet explorer because frankly internet explorer is annoying and frustrating. The problem with this is that everytime I click "upload" on the firefox website Internet Explorer automatically closes the program down…what can I change to make it stop doing this and allow me to upload firefox?

This question has been on my mind all summer long. As I prepare for class in the fall I have been searching the interw3bs for a new laptop. This reason for wanting one is I have been using a eMac running Fedora 8-12 and I love it, but I think it is time to move on to something more portable. My three biggest concerns with buying a new notebook are in this order

Functionality (Programs "just work". and Program compatibility)(GPU, CPU,ect.)
Battery Life (7 hours or better —–> would be nice if i can get that performance on GNU?Linux)
Aesthetics (Oooooooo Shiny)

I am going to college to become an engineer. I don’t know which field of engineering but I know I want to build a better future for my home town and small villages in the 3rd world. The software I use now is all open source but don’t know if I can get away with using it in a college environment where AutoDesk and Adobe are king.

I don’t mind Apple’s closed system when it comes to iTunes and all that I have ways around that. But, they are showing great interest in F/OSS. Even if I run Windows ( another closed system) i still have to pay for the software. Might as well go closed source with open source benefits.
