what does open source stand in programming?for ex. php, joomla languages etc how to make a drop down menu having sub menu i.e parent -child categories in php with the help of javascript?give a simple code.

I have read a little into Plone, but I was wondering if anything else was out there worth looking into. I noticed Plone is written with Python, which from people I have talked to is not the best of programming/scripting languages.

A friend of mine has spiked my interest in computer programming, but he didn’t really fill me in on the basics. Which language do you think is the best to use for programming for a beginner? I was thinking either C++, Ruby, or Python. If someone could point me in the right direction, that would be great, as well as any really good tutorial sites for languages. Thanks!

How is any programming language encoded into computer chips for a programmer to use? I know a little programming (basic c++) but was always wondering, how they embedded these languages into any computer chips or how conversion of binary ( 0101 system) to a more complex language was possible.

I know screensavers are useless by now. However, I’d like to program them as a hobby. I am aware of several languages having bought "Programming for Dummies". I’m a beginner in programming.

Would I still need to learn PHP if I can find my way round Drupal? I hear its a steep learning curve. Learning new programming/scripting languages whenever you what to deploy something new on an already existing platform is just plain STRESS!!!
