Is there a Linux based OS that allows more than 4 keyboard layouts at a time?

I have been using Ubuntu for awhile on my laptop, but I’m a linguist and I need to use multiple keyboard layouts; however, Ubuntu only allows you to assign four different layouts at one time. I am really fond of Linux products and don’t intend to go back to Windows any time soon, so I was wondering if there was another form of Linux that would solve this problem for me, because I need 7-8 different layouts.

What good, open-source programs are there to automate repetitive tasks?

What I’m looking for is a good, free (preferably open-source) tool for MS Windows that could serve as an alternative to this program: http://www.mjtnet.com/macro_scheduler.htm
I’m sorry, but I wasn’t specific enough:

I need a tool that would take over the mouse and keyboard, clicking on specific buttons with specific timing in a specific order (preferably using image recognition).

What to press when installing Mac OS X Leopard using a non-Apple keyboard?

I forgot the password of my Mac OS Leopard so I’m planning to install a fresh copy of the OS. I use a non-Apple keyboard (a keyboard for Windows). I inserted the OS disk and I pressed and held the "C" key. But it didn’t lead to the Mac OS Leopard installation screen. What is the problem? Maybe I need to press other keys for non-Apple keyboard? Please help. PS. my computer is an iMac G5.

Programming?

I’m new to C and C++ programming and I’ve learn them through books and online tutorials. But all the tutorials I’ve encountered only provide lessons that teaches us how to take inputs from the keyboard. Is there anyway to write a program that takes input from other I/O interfaces such as serial ports, parallel ports or usb? What are the knowledge that I need and the steps on learning that? I would be very grateful if anyone could provide me some links of the tutorials. Thank you very much.
