Java language is open source or not?

I am busy studying for programming and now i have the choice of either choosing C#,C++,VB.NET or java as a programming Language.Which one of these is the best to do and which one will get you a good job,im planning to go to America or Canada after my studies.What are my chances of getting a programmers job there and which language is bery popular in these countries.Thanks

I’m currently in college getting my B.A. in Information Systems. I’m taking programming classes in C++ and Java along with a basic ‘Programming & Formal Logic’ class. Next semester I will be taking ‘Application Development’ and ‘Database Management’.

Realistically how much experience and knowledge do I need in order to get a job as an entry level programmer? Is there something specific I should be focusing on? Will I need years of experience before anyone will hire me?

I have learned a great deal of Java programming on my own after quite some time now. I figured that if I keep this up for 6 months or so I would be competent enough to work as a programmer just like the IT degree holders.

Is there a way I can get certified as a programmer and find a job as one?

What is the best book to learn java programming?

I want a beginners book in java programming, I know very little as I did a short course in school.

I know visual basic programming and a few other programming languages already, and now want to learn java programming.
