I have some background in programming but i have not been able to find a good program to use when trying to make computer games. I would preferably like a program that i could easily download tutorials for it incase i need future help. Thanx!

From what I know, there is a game programming career that one of my friends is currently pursuing. He enjoys games and computers, by the way. I acknowledge the fact that there are other computer programming careers out there other than game programming, but I don’t know what they are. I was thinking in getting a game programming career too, but I’m wondering if there’s other options. So, what kinds of computer programming careers are there?

Well, I’m applying for colleges, or more like looking for information for colleges. and I found myself at the site of the University of Advancing Technology. When I was at the third step, I found game design and game programming. Can’t tell the difference. Help.

I’m looking for a good college to go to for game programming. From what I’ve found online, Digipen looks like a pretty good school, but I’m not sure that it’s quite what I’m looking for. If anyone knows of any good schools or knows more about Digipen, please post. Thanks a lot!

i want to create my own games on windows but i have Absolutely no knowledge of programming at all. i have looked on the internet about beginning programming and many places say buy books on C/C++ programming but i dont even know what that is.

i need to start right at the basics and hopefully one day make my first game.

there is no classes about programming near where i live so i need to be able to teach myself.

I have a huge interest in game programming but I don’t have a clue where to start.

I’m interested in learning programming. I’m looking forward to a career in programming. I’m not sure what kind exactly yet but I’m looking into making applications and/or game programming. Please give me a good language for these and state which one your talking about. Also can you please give me a website or book where i can learn and master this language.

I’m on my second year of Computer Science. I know Java, C, UNIX system programming, SQL, XML. I’ve figured that C++ is the most used language for game programming.

So where can I start? Should I join one of those game modding teams? Should I take one of those free online courses?

I would like to know the answer for both of these. Correct me if I am wrong, but from what I have heard so far programmers are more technical, using programming languages where as designers are more visual, with the models and maps. I am leaning toward programming because I am not that artistic or visually creative, unless that is not needed. I would specifically want to know what degrees are required.

Is it required to know windows programming before one can begin game programming with DirectX?

I’ve seen some code written for Windows-based applications, and it is very different from what I’ve learned in C++ textbooks. I guess windows programming itself is very different from console applications.

Anyway, I want to get up to speed with DirectX, but I am not familiar with windows programming. Do I need to learn windows programming before I can even attempt to work with DirectX?
