Latest Enterprise Linux OS from Red Hat Shines in Server Room Roles

Red Hat Enterprise Linux has long been a trusty go-to operating system option for most server roles, if not in its official Red Hat branded form, then in one of its respun incarnations, such as the fee-free CentOS or the Oracle rebrand Unbreakable Linux. Based on my tests of RHEL 6, I expect this new release to continue in that tradition& the new release performed as solidly as ever, and benefits from a support term that’s been lengthened from seven to 10 years. While aimed primarily at server roles, RHEL 6 can also perform well as a desktop operating system, as it ships with recent versions of all of the usual suspects of the Linux desktop, anchored by Version 3.2 of the OpenOffice.org productivity suite and Version 3.6 of Mozilla’s Firefox Web browser. For a look at RHEL 6 in action, check out the slide gallery below, and be sure to read eWEEK Labs’ full review here. – …

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 Is Ready for Heavy-Duty Computing

At the launch event for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, Red Hats senior executives touted improvements in virtualization, performance and power management. Instead of just being a standalone server operating system, RHEL is a business operating system for both virtualization and the cloud, Red Hat said. RHEL 6 is scalable, with the ability to handle theoretical architectures of up to 16 Terabytes of memory, a 100 Terabyte file system and 4096 processors. "It’s pretty ironic that even though Red Hat is the leading innovator, we’re rarely the first to ship something," said Tim Burke, vice president of platform engineering at Red Hat. "That’s because we don’t ship it until it’s done right. It has really taken us this time to get RHEL 6 ready to meet the demanding workloads of our customers." No matter where the operating system is, whether it’s running in the data center, in the cloud, on bare-metal servers or on a virtual machine, RHEL 6 will deliver the same performance. Here is a quick look at what Red Hat has wrought. – …

What do you think about Richard Stallman's decision?

Richard Stallman(creator of GNU/Linux) is saying that he might remove linux because people are making it closed instead of what it originally was (open)

Closed means that it is propriotory and that it will cost money and there will be many restrictions but open means that it will be available for use for anybody and modifications to the open version is free as to the user without any costs (money and so on)
Larry Ellison made a version of linux that is called enterprise linux unbreakable which is closed and wants to charge money for it. This is why Richard Stallman wants to change open source but has not yet.
