How much Computer Programming knowledge do you need if you are Expecting to do a degree in Computer Science?

I am sixteen years old and have quite a basic computer programming knowledge. I do however love the subject and so am looking forward towards doing a degree in the field. I am interested to know how much background knowledge (if any at all) would be required and recommended to do this. Any suggestions are very much welcome.

What's the difference between a "software programmer" and a "software engineer"?

According to Wikipedia.org, there are some who consider them the same, and some who consider them the came. Also, to be the latter, you must have a "computer engineering"degree (real name, if wrong, eludes me at the moment) as opposed to a "computer science" degree, which would enable you to be the former.

What’s the difference (layman’s terms please) and which degrees do I need because I previously thought they were the same was planning on going to college for a "Computer science" degree to be a programmer, but soft engineering sounds like something I’d want to do instead.

Help please!

How can a software developer/computer programmer find a company to hire them for contract work?

This person has a BS in Computer Science, and plenty of experience in various programming languages… especially PHP, Java, Ruby and lots of others. Where can you find companies that want to hire people for contract work? These kind of jobs are out there, how does one find them?

Bioinformatics or computer science if you want to work as a programmer?

I’d like to work as a computer programmer after college and I’m trying to decide if I should major in bioinformatics or computer science. I like the bioinformatics major because you study both biology and computer science, but I don’t want to work in the bioinformatics field, like I said I want to work in programming. Would my bioinformatics degree be taken seriously in the programming field?
oh and please be honest, talk to me like you would talk to a sister or a good friend.

What can I do with a computer science degree besides programming?

I know this is the programming section, but maybe some of you can answer this.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in computer science. What can I do that isn’t strictly programming or software development (it can involve some programming, but not where 100% of your work is coding)? Also what can I do that’s outside of the IT industry? And what would I need to have or learn besides my degree to get there?

What kind of programming jobs would I be qualifed for if I have a 2 year degree in computer programming?

I’ve completed my major requirements and I am currently finishing off the last of my general ed courses, and am going to gradate soon. However I am starting to notice that whenever I look at job postings, I notice that most employers require a min education level in computer science to even apply.

What kind of programming jobs am I qualified for with "just" a 2 year degree in computer programming?? Keep in mind, I am planning on transferring to a 4 year university once I earn my degree. Once again, my current major is computer programing for a 2 year AS degree.

Would a Degree in Computer Science help me on my way to becoming a game programmer?
