Online Education– Could it be the Demise of Actually Learning Anything New?
Do you know what the second most played and learned instrument is behind the guitar? It’s the piano and the way we learn it is drastically changing these days.
Just like the way we communicate with others and do our banking have been changed by the Internet, the methods we use to learn new skills are changing as well.
Whether it’s improving our golf swing and trying to break 90 or learning to play the piano with a piano course there’s more knowledge and skills at our finger tips then ever before, but with this also comes a down side.
Since it is so easy to find instruction, lessons and videos for just about anything you can think of we’re faced with a multitude of choices which makes learning anything some what difficult.
It used to be if you wanted to improve your golf game then you’d take lessons and practice, practice, practice. Today you can watch some lessons online about how to chip and putt better and then move right along to a video on how to play your first chords on the piano followed by who else knows what.
Our span of attention to things is shrinking and it takes a special type of person who can focus in on a task as hand to get it done. Most of us who want to learn something new fall in love with the idea of it but can rarely, if ever get past that stage because something else catches our attention before we ever get the chance to learn the first thing we were interested in.
So while no ones arguing that shopping online, gaining a connection with old friends and family members sometimes half around the world and in some instances improving productivity in some instances isn’t great there are a slew of other side effects that our instant knowledge world has left us with.
Could it be that we’re breading a society where ADD will become the social epidemic of the next generation?.
How hard is it to learn java programming?
I am currently going to school online with the university of phoenix to get my degree in information technology. I have not chosen my focus yet. I wanted to choose a focus in programming but some of the smartest people I know said they couldn’t even understand it. How hard is it? My choices right now are web design, programming, and networking.
What are the differences between UNIX and Linux, and what about all those choices within Linux?
What are the operational differences between Linux and UNIX? Why would a programmer choose one over the other? What about software selection and ease of programming (with already basic knowledge of programming, and wanting to dive in to open source)?
In terms of Linux, what makes things like Red Hat cost money and things like Ubuntu not? Is pay-for OS based on Linux better quality than freely distributed OS? What is the best choice for Linux-or-Unix OS for a budding programmer?
How do I use hotmail as my default email with firefox?
I’ve tried to change my default email from outlook to hotmail but in the available emails to change my default to my only choices are windows mail, gmail, and yahoo mail. I have the newest version of firefox.
