How can I keep Firefox from using so much memory?

Lately I’ve seen it running at peaks of 1GB, even without having any tabs open that would use up so much(no videos, games, etc). Even when I close a few of them, it still runs at a high memory capacity. Is there any way to curb this high memory expenditure, or is this just how Firefox works in general?

Firefox shouldn’t be running anywhere near 1GB. I recommend a virus scan or a system format.

What you should do is uninstall Firefox and reinstall Firefox; if doing this doesn’t work, you should switch over to the Opera browser. Opera, being renowned as the ‘fastest’ web browser in the world, is a definite must-have program.

Firefox should stay around or under 100MB most of the time. Try opening Firefox in safe mode, there should be a shorcut in the start menu for this. This disables all addons, and if u notice lower memory consumption then an addon is doing it.
If its still doing it in safe mode, it may be a problem with viruses or something. Try doing a scan with Adaware and Malawarebytes or uninstall and reinstall Firefox.
