How can I fix a laptop that acted funny with the preinstalled os and the wrong os installed by repair shop?

I got HP laptop windows vista installed bout a month later it started flashing os not found and kept acting weird. I took it to a repair shop an they installed windows basic for a home pc. my coverage is still on it should I takeit back and hope its covered or is there anothr way? Please help, thanks.

    Definitely take it back. If they won’t do anything about it then install the OS you wanted on there yourself. It’s not hard.

    If a repair shop added or repaired files on your computer and did not use the correct OS version then yes take it back and make sure they repair the damage vista is very twitchy about the proper OS version. you will have mucho problemo if you do not go asap the repair shop will deny you repair for using the wrong disk. i had the same thing happen on my laptop and had to take it back to the toshiba repair becasue it was under warranty. if you have XP it can be made to repair itself. vista looks like it’s on it’s way out. they have not even released it for 18 months and now there is a new beta version of windows 7 kinda like the situation with ME a few years back. you are better off with an OS that has been fairly stable for 7 or so years vs. an os that is already being superseded.
